Gradiant is delivering the full turnkey water and wastewater package for a hyperscale AI data center campus under construction in West Texas. Speaking with the Midland Reporter-Telegram, CEO Prakash Govindan explained what it takes to build AI infrastructure in a water-constrained region.

“Our HyperSolved system is engineered for zero discharge to surface water, which is particularly important in a water-constrained region like West Texas,” he said.

Prakash said the real question is how much new freshwater a facility withdraws from the watershed. Closed-loop cooling uses less water on site, but it “just moves water demand upstream to the grid rather than eliminating it.”

Texas now requires data centers to report their water use, so he expects water to come up at the start of every project. Gradiant helps by tapping alternative sources such as treated wastewater and brackish groundwater, and by maximizing recovery and reuse.

Gradiant is deployed or in active discussions with all four major U.S. hyperscalers, and with several more West Texas developers.

“West Texas is a good example of the challenge we are focused on solving,” Prakash said.
